School visits

The availability of highly qualified guides enables students to learn about the vast collection of the Vatican Museums. The Vatican Museum employs specialists and art historians with museum education experience. The duration of the school tours is approximately two hours. Tours of Museum collections can be customized to meet the needs of different age groups and interests.
It is possible to book online a School Tour, on the official web site of the Vatican Museums where information can be found on tickets, visiting hours and reservations.

How to book online

- On the official web site of the Vatican Museums (www.museivaticani.va) click on su Tickets Online or click on the web site of the Ticket Office of the Vatican Museums http://biglietteriamusei.vatican.va;
- click on "School Groups";
- in "Select Type of Tour" choose from one of the thematic tours available;
- in "Select Period and Participants" select month, year and number of participants, the visit language, and then click on "Next";
- on the calendar, select the available date, indicated by the green point;
- then observe the "Time" and "Availability", choose the date.
- after the Summary has been displayed, click on "Next";
- after having read the "Estimante of Reservation" and the Ways of Payment, complete the Reference Data, noting that the person of reference is not obliged to take part in the visit.
WAYS OF PAYMENT: to book online a Credit Card is required (only Visa and MasterCard are acceptable). Payments with Pre-paid Cards (Circuit VISA) are allowed, noting that the Card Data can be different from the data of the participants.

- In the General Norms of Purchase, accept the conditions.

In the Security Code, type in the characters of the code visualized in the image displayed. Now proceed to accept the Estimate and to make the payment.
- Click on the green rectangle "Conclude Purchase";
- Type in the credit card data, noting that the Credit Card Data can be different from the reference data.
N.B. The Credit Card holder is not obliged to take part to the visit.
The following Credit Cards are accepted: Visa and MasterCard.
- Now confirm the reservation.
- The reservation is now correctly completed and the voucher will be sent to the indicated e-mail address.

Individualised Itineraries

The formidable variety of specialist areas constituting the Vatican Museums provides every school with the facility to explore a selection of art works or material exhibited so as to enrich the cultural formation of students.
To avoid the risk of pursuing a dispersive approach, specific itineraries are available, to be selected for their compatibility with the school syllabus.
- Raphael Rooms and Sistine Chapel
A true immersion into Renaissance Art in Rome, viewing the great masterpieces of Raphael and Michelangelo exhibited in the Vatican Museums.
- Egyptian Museum and Sistine Chapel
An itinerary that takes students from the Egyptian to the Renaissance period, enabling them to learn more about and to appreciate the Pharaohs of the rich Egyptian civilisation through a journey that will lead them up to discover the Renaissance period through the pictorial masterpiece of Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel.
- Gregorian Egyptian Museum and Gregorian Etruscan Museum
A fascinating journey through time guides students to the rediscovery of two great civilisations: the Etruscan, through objects found in the tombs of ancient Etruria, and ancient Egypt among pharaohs and mysterious mummies.
- Gregorian Etruscan Museum and Sistine Chapel
The itinerary guides students on a journey through centuries of the Etruscan civilisation, discovering the secrets of daily life in ancient Etruria until the Renaissance period, and thence to the pictorial masterpiece by Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel.
- Pio Clementine Museum and Sistine Chapel
An itinerary that brings together sculpture and painting: from ancient classical statues, including the famous Laocoon group, with a place of honour in the Museums, up to the sixteenth century, culminating in the Sistine Chapel with the pictorial Masterpiece of Michelangelo.
- Pinacoteca (Picture Gallery) and Sistine Chapel
This visit is dedicated to the pictorial masterpieces by the Mediaeval and Baroque masters: Giotto, Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Caravaggio.
- Vatican Gardens
The tour is unique, as it takes the visitor through 2000 years of history in the smallest state in the world. Besides the natural beauty of the gardens, the Vatican City is rich in monuments and precious works of art.
Tours, designed to cater for different age groups, are offered to satisfy both historical and artistic needs, in order to support the subject matter of a particular course as well as satisfying pedagogical and psychological needs. These educational formats accustom students to listening and observing, while discovering the joy in learning. By sharing ideas with the Museum's teaching staff about each work of art, students are able to learn how to examine a work of art.
